How to Soften New Stiff Sheets for Your Mattress

Epsom Salt Method

  1. Fill Laundry washing machine tub with cold water.
  2. Add 50g of Epsom salt.
  3. Stir the sheets around the tub for a few minutes. Use a wooden spoon etc. if you don’t want your hands to get cold.
  4. Leave the sheets in with the Epsom salt
  5. Wash and rinse your sheets
  6. Then hang your sheets outside to dry.
  7. Now there ready for your mattress.

Borax Method

  1. Fill your washing machine with cold water.
  2. Put 6 tablespoons of borax in the cold water.
  3. Put your sheets for your mattress in the cold water and soak overnight.
  4. Rinse your sheets in wash cycle the next morning and hang outside to dry.

Salt Method

  1. Fill washing machine with cold water.
  2. Throw in 2 handfuls of salt in the washer.
  3. Put your sheets for your mattress in the washer for soaking overnight.
  4. Wash and rinse in the washer.
  5. Hang sheets outside for drying.

Turpentine Method

  1. Add a cup of turpentine to the washing machine cold water.
  2. Put your sheets in the washer and stir.
  3. Wash and rinse your sheets
  4. Hang out to dry and the turpentine will evaporate.

On these methods you can still use your dryer but your sheets will be better prepared if hung out to dry. So now, go ahead and soften up your sheets with any of these methods.

Your mattress will always sleep better with better sheets.
